Free Comic Book Day Boost from Avengers Endgame Movie

While the history of American comic books had its start as serial comic strips dating back to the 1840s, the future has never looked brighter for these serialized books with franchise companies like Marvel and DC dominating the box office. More readers are taking comic books seriously as a reading source, while others rummage through comic book collections found in someone's family attic for any golden age of comic books from 1938-1955. A pristine copy of an Action Comic #1, where Superman made his debut, sold on eBay auction for 3.2 million dollars in 2014. So, there is gold to be made on a simple comic book that sold for just ten cents back in 1938.

It is no secret that comic book sales are influenced by current movies like Avengers Endgame and their 1.34 billion dollar global opening weekend. So, it stands to reason that with this year, May 4th falls just one week behind one of the top grossing movies of all time, that there should be a surge of interest in getting in on the action that is Free Comic Book Day.

The first Free Comic Book Day was held on May 4, 2002, and has remained on May 4th all these years as a way to introduce fans to new titles. This day is also dubbed with the pop culture phrase, "May the 4th be with you," in reverence by Star Wars fans.

Free Comic Book Day has been a staple for comic book stores for 17 years, and every year the industry has offered a keen selection of books to their free lineup. If you would like to get in on this action, check-in with your local comic book stores because this year they are offering fifty-one titles, including such great titles as Little LuLu, The Amazing Spider-Man, and even one for the Star Wars Adventures fans.
